Calling all genealogists, photographers, and amateur historians! Join us at Sunset Cemetery for a lesson in how to use death records to supercharge historical and family research— and how to assist researchers across the globe with photos of gravestones here in El Cerrito.
Professional genealogist Melanie Proctor will discuss the many ways in which death certificates and cemetery records offer valuable clues about individual and familial histories. She will also instruct us in how to use and contribute to websites like Find a Grave, which make death records accessible globally.
Once we’ve learned best practices for photographing gravesites, we’ll fan out across the cemetery to fulfill photo requests pending on Find A Grave—or just stroll the grounds, as you prefer.
Meet us at 11AM in the parking lot across from the chapel of Sunset View Cemetery, at Colusa Avenue at Fairmount.
