El Cerrito’s Cathedral of Culture: The History of Down Home Music

  • Down Home Music 10341 San Pablo Avenue Richmond, CA, 94804 United States (map)

El Cerrito’s Cathedral of Culture: The History of Down Home Music.
A conversation with longtime managers J.C. Garrett and John McCord, and others.

For almost 50 years, Down Home Music has been one of the world’s leading record stores specializing in blues, bluegrass, conjunto and other forms of traditional and world music. It has shared a building with Arhoolie Records and Les Blank Films, which have received a great deal of attention for their historical importance. Down Home has not. Come help rectify that oversight.

Learn about the store’s past as well as its future as it turns into a nonprofit organization offering increased performances and community engagement. Light refreshments will be served. Get there early, as we expect a crowd!
